A Fun Song
I ran across this oldie-but-goodie song on a kids' cd I had playing in the car. It was sung by Gene Autry, and the lyrics crack me up for some reason. I get it stuck in my head often, so if you ever hear me singing this random song, now you can join in, too!
Bucky the bucking bronco
Was as wild as he could be
No one could ever ride him
Such a mean ole horse was he.
Then came a wanderin' cowboy
Who said I'll take a chance
All I need do is spread some glue
To the seat of my ridin' pants.
So up he climbed on Bucky
Who pitched and pranced and wiggled and danced around
But then he stayed on Bucky
'Til the bucking stopped, the bronco dropped, exhausted to the ground
But then the last poor cowboy
When he tried to walk away
He still was stuck to Bucky
And he's stuck there to this day!
Bucky the bucking bronco
Was as wild as he could be
No one could ever ride him
Such a mean ole horse was he.
Then came a wanderin' cowboy
Who said I'll take a chance
All I need do is spread some glue

So up he climbed on Bucky
Who pitched and pranced and wiggled and danced around
But then he stayed on Bucky
'Til the bucking stopped, the bronco dropped, exhausted to the ground
But then the last poor cowboy
When he tried to walk away
He still was stuck to Bucky
And he's stuck there to this day!

English?
Just this weekend, Ian has made significant headway on his words. It's like a switch went off in his brain or something! He repeated a lot of things we said yesterday and did so with good pronunciation, too. I wish I could remember what all he said... clouds, San Antonio, grapes... gosh, it seemed like he repeated nearly everything we said! Oh, these are fun times.

Ianglish, Part 2
It's fun having a kiddo learning to talk around here. Well, it can be confusing... and amusing, that's for sure! For example:
John: Can you say racker? (that's what people who work for his company are called)
Ian: Apple!
As mom was explaining the difference between school buses and city buses today, Ian coined new words for his favorite things to spot on the road: "Boo bus!" (school bus) and "Bee bus!" (city bus)
This morning at breakfast Ian said, "No foot, ow saws!" Anyone want to take a guess at that one?

Ian-glish
We've decided that Ian speaks his own language, Ianglish.
For example, his word for "fan" is "finny." And his word for "rock" is "frack." And Xbox comes out "sbop." These are all very important words for a young person's vocabulary.

The Tour
We've made pretty good progress on the house so far especially with the help of John's parents this past weekend. I'll start with the two HIGHLIGHTS and then show you some more pics of our new place.
First of all, remember the quilt we all debated on colors/fabrics a while back? Well, John's grandmother finished it, and I am so so pleased! I love it, love it, love it! She also made the bed skirt, pillow shams, and decorative pillow to go with it. Thanks so much, Grandma!

Also, I ordered a new refrigerator this weekend. There was one that came with the house, but it was in pretty bad shape. It was left by a previous tenant, so the landlord wouldn't service or replace it for us. We found out quickly why it was left behind. With the combination of a Labor Day sale and a coupon, I was able to buy the one we wanted for $600 less than what we originally thought we would have to pay for it. I ordered it on Sunday night, and it came today! Hooray!
OK, on to the rest of the house... here is the reading nook where I do my work, complete with an oversized chair, bay windows, ottoman, and bookshelves.
Here is the wall opposite the "reading nook." We're using the dining room space for more living space. Our table is in the kitchen's breakfast area. I am not showing you a picture of the kitchen right now because the refrigerator's arrival has caused somewhat of an upheaval in there.
Here are a few pictures of the living room.

Do you think my child has enough toys? These are just the ones in his "play corner" in the living room. He has a room full of toys, too. Sorry, the boy couldn't accompany us on this little tour. He didn't nap at Mother's Day Out today, so I promptly put him to bed when we got home. Maybe I can post a picture of his room soon, but it pretty much looks the same as it always has.
So, having our stuff in place makes it feel more like home. I am looking forward to buying a house next year though, especially since we've made the investment in new appliances recently. I gotta tell you, my kitchen looks a little drab with such a spaceship of a fridge in it. And it still saddens me to put my pretty red washer and dryer in the garage. Oh well, all in due time, I suppose!

Gotta love this...
Mommy: Do you want to go play in your room?
Ian: No
Mommy: Put your milk on the table.
Ian: No
Mommy: Are you tired?
Ian: No
Mommy: Is it time for a nap?
Ian: No
Mommy: Let's go play with your toys, then.

Exploring the big city
Let's see... this week, I went to three Hobby Lobbies in town. Oh, and there are more! I was in pursuit of something specific. The first one was way ghetto. I didn't know Hobby Lobby could be ghetto. Well, it can, folks. The ghetto-ness was mostly obvious by the store's location, but also by the fact that many items were broken and/or scratched, and they didn't even wrap up my breakable (unbroken with a minor scratch) item that I purchased. I feared it wouldn't make it home in one piece. Oh, and none of the shopping carts seemed to work or have functioning child safety straps, an essential with my little monkey boy on board. I looked down at one of the wheels of the gimpy cart I ended up with, and there was hair all wrapped around it, ew gross!
Yes, I did find what I was looking for eventually. Thanks for asking.
I also went to the airport today to pick up a friend's mom. Admittedly, there was some concern with navigating an airport where they are doing construction AND at rush hour! But we did just fine, no problems whatsoever. I got to park for free in "cell phone parking" where your person gives you a call when they arrive, and you can just pull up to the curb and pick them up. Ian got to get out of his carseat and climb around the car, play with buttons, etc. He was a very well-behaved boy today. He even got a glowing report from Mother's Day Out!
