Disillusionment

I love my mac book pro. Not only does it provide portability and profit-making capability, it's the source of endless hours of entertainment for me. I had one problem with it earlier this year, but it was my fault. I accidentally interrupted an important "security" feature while it was processing, thus I lost some files and settings on my computer. Nothing major. Otherwise, it has been pure bliss to have my great little (or big by most standards, a 17-inch widescreen) laptop.

So imagine my disillusionment when I discovered that the battery was not functioning about two weeks ago. Further shock and disappointment occurred when I pulled my laptop out this evening to find the battery was SWELLING, causing a bulge in the back of my computer. I have removed the battery... some forums said it could be a fire hazard. Said forums also led me to believe that I am certainly NOT the only one having this problem. It is a known defect among the earlier Mac Book Pro models. I will call Apple tomorrow, and hopefully they will ship me a new battery for free.

I tried to get the warranty about two months ago only to discover it was too late. (You have to purchase it within the first year.) I figured the warranty would be a good thing to have since this laptop is my business, my livelihood. I hope the battery problem isn't something only covered by that warranty. Somehow, I knew something would happen since I wasn't "insured." Sigh.

I have also been saddened by the recent ruin of our big blue comforter that we bought a year ago. We spent the money and bought a nice one. I took it to the cleaners, and they ruined it. I don't think I have much of a fight there... they made me sign a waiver before taking it in. The stuffing is all bunched up. Any suggestions on how to fix this? I tried sticking it in the dryer with tennis balls... this was one idea I was given. It still seems bunchy, and it doesn't lay right. So disappointing.

I'm not really one of those customer-is-right, and I'm the customer, so give me what I want type of people. I usually just figure, oh well, something went wrong with the product, it's an unfortunate loss. I hate calling customer service lines, and generally, I am pretty non-confrontational. So, basically, when it comes to this sort of thing, I feel victimized... or at the least, I just feel unlucky.

Sorry to hear about your trouble!
Let me know if you need my services- at the office they call me "Rent-a-Jerk" since I am naturally assertive and almost enjoy advocating with customer service people.

I am also known to pitch a fit when people get taken advantage of and not treated right. I will be happy to call that cleaners and demand that they fix it. Oh yeah the waiver you signed. I might not be able to get around that one. But at least they should be willing to help you by doing something to it. Oh well, sorry that happened. And sorry about your computer battery. I wish I could heip.

Yay! Hubby is my hero!! He called Apple, and they'll send us a new one for free! At first, they said since my computer was over a year old, we could buy a new one for $100, but John set them straight, and the guy had to go talk to his manager.

WAHOO!!

I'm posting a picture so you can see the battery. Some forums say that if left in the computer for much longer past this "bloating" stage, that it could explode!

I can't believe your computer almost exploded. How stressful.

And the comforter thing, maybe whapping it with a Tennis racket?? That sucks. I've washed mine before and it did that a little...but it was cheap and I didn't care.

As far as dry cleaning though, I don't know why that would have happened anyway. What process did they use. If it wasn't what you asked for, then maybe that's where you have some ground.

about the dry cleaning: did you ask that they "dry clean" it or "launder" it? if you asked for "dry cleaning" and the tag said "dry clean only" then there should not have been damage. Soudns like they laundered it to me.

Bummer, bummer, bummer! I also have the instinct to just be victimized rather than confronting someone else to fix the problem. What if I call the customer service and demand a refund or a replacement, and they tell me no?

Bum shoe hockey! Not fun. I feel your pain with laptop problems. I had an HP that had an issue, but we had the warranty...sorry sweetie!!!
